The scope of things…

Posted by Lisa on 08.11.10

I haven’t posted the past 2 weigh ins. Nothing has changed. Still at 177, up one or down one pretty daily right now. So a small stall.

I have had so much going on lately. I had another terrible spell about 2 weeks ago that lasted for 8 hours. I posted previously about the pain I would have and nothing would get rid of it. This time was 5 times worse than that. When I got in to see my surgeon to see what could be causing it, I told him my symptoms and he immediately said he would be shocked if it wasn’t my gallbladder and that I would probably need it removed. I had ultrasounds done, and they were in and out of the room 3 different portable dishwasher times with doctors in and out and noone saying anything. Come to find out my gallbladder is fine (no stones) but what they were concerned with is that before my surgery I had an ultrasound done on my liver and they had found a ‘spot’ on my liver. The surgeon did a biopsy during surgery, and said everything came back fine. Well, when they did this ultrasound, they couldn’t find the spot any longer and the fatty liver was gone!! So losing 100 lbs. has helped my liver to heal completely! What great news!!!

So now that the ultrasound came back normal, this Friday I am having an endoscopy (I think that’s what they called it – the scope down my throat) to see if there is any trouble in my pouch or any kind of ulcer that might set off the pain.

In the meantime we have added a stable on to a garage that we have out back of our house and today we are having a fence installed for a pasture. Yep. We are getting horses. Two of them. It’s a mom and her daughter. So all of the medical and construction has kept me away from the computer.

I will post again after the scope and let you know how everything is, and should be back to regular posting after that!

Weigh-in and so much more!

So this past week we spent 4 days just outside Lexington, KY. At the Kentucky Horse Park they had BreyerFest. My oldest daughter is a horse nut and collects Breyer horses. She was in HEAVEN. We had such a great time. We even stood just 10 feet from Pricilla Presley who was there signing the new Elvis horse made by Breyer. She was gorgeous!

While we were in KY, we had to make a last-minute visit to Target to find me some new shorts. My 14′s wouldn’t stay up anymore and were so annoying! I wound up getting new shorts and a top. The shorts are a 12!!! That is the size I wore in High School…you know…5 years ago or so. (yeah. ok. It’s been 20.) I couldn’t believe it! I also got a really cute white pair of capris…also in a 12! It’s so weird to me to pull laundry out of the dryer and go to fold my tops and pants, and I just stare at them. I can’t get over how small they look! There is seriously no way to put into words how incredible it all feels! Here’s the outfit:

Clint and I also ran into some great deals on new bikes! We have been wanting new ones for a couple of years now (sold our old ones over a year ago in a garage sale) so we jumped on these babies!! We found them at Target. They are Schwinn Trail Way Hybrids. His is more ‘manly’ of course, in solid silver. But mine is fun and bright!

One more thing to have fun and stay active!!!

Oh, and this weeks weigh-in…I lost 4 lbs.! That is 97 lbs. total and only 3 more until I lose 100 lbs., and 9 lbs. till goal. Wait a minute. What the hell am I going to do when I don’t NEED to lose any more weight? Maybe now I will get a life!

Weigh-In (Week 27 Post-Op)

Posted by Lisa on 07.19.10

Despite what the opinions of the majority may be, I’m NORMAL!!! That’s right!!! I lost 3 lbs. this week which puts my BMI in the NORMAL range!!! At my heaviest, I was in Obese Class 3. When I had my surgery done, I was in Obese Class 2. In just 6 months I am now NORMAL!!! I can’t quit putting the word NORMAL in caps.

Just 7 more pounds and I will have lost 100 lbs., and 13 more pounds and I will reach my goal weight! In the beginning I was wanting to reach that goal by my birthday (August 24). Right now, I don’t even care when I hit that goal. I’m so content with how I look, it’s unreal. I don’t remember a time in my life when I have had this kind of confidence in myself.

In the next week, I’m really setting a couple of goals for myself. I need to get back to my Couch to 5K training, and I also need to start incorporating weight training into my exercising. At my 6 month check-up that was the only thing that the doctors could see needing changed up in how I eat/exercise. That is going to help tremendously in getting the loose skin toned up. There is a good chance I won’t need any plastic surgery at all. I’m shocked at that. I have some saggy areas, but from what I have been told, it’s nothing that weight training won’t take care of.

Now, the ‘girls’, we definitely need something added there. They have nicely deflated. Think pancakes. Ugh.

With gains come losses!

Wow, even with a 1 lb. gain this week, I have dropped another size in clothing! We have vacation plans in about a week and I wanted to get a couple of new outfits for the trip. I have been in a 16 for a little while now, and they are getting uncomfortably big, but I was scared to try a 14 and be discouraged if they didn’t fit. Today I grabbed 2 pairs of size 14 shorts and two matching t-shirt tops in a size Large. That’s right. LARGE. No ‘X’ in front!! WEIRD.

Put on the shirts, they fit perfectly. Put on the shorts?!?! Not only did they FIT, but they aren’t going to last me long, as they are already a bit roomy!!! I didn’t want to go so far as to try on a 12 just yet, so I got the 14′s. They aren’t so big that they look goofy, but they aren’t so tight that I get a ‘muffin top’ either. They are perfect for now.

Can’t freaking believe it!!! The whole time we were in the dressing room Meggie kept saying ‘Mom, you’re so SKINNY!!’ and Abbie kept going ‘I can’t believe how small your clothes are!!’.

I’m in heaven. Here is a picture in one of them:

Weigh-In (Week 26 Post-Op)

Posted by Lisa on 07.12.10

Well, no loss this week. Actually for the first time since my surgery I have had a gain of 1 lb. No big deal, and surprisingly I’m not even freaked out by it. My workouts have really increased in the past couple of weeks, and I know that will make a difference in weight in the beginning. What is even a weirder change is I’m not freaked out about the numbers on the scale anymore. I don’t even care. I check my measurements, and how my clothes are still getting bigger and bigger. For the first time in my life I can honestly say that if I don’t lose another pound I would be completely satisfied with my body. WEIRD. Of course that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop working at trying to reach my goal, or toning up for that matter, but it’s just not something that consumes my daily thoughts anymore. What an amazing feeling!

Weigh-In (25 Weeks Post-Op)

Posted by Lisa on 07.05.10

2 lb. loss this week! I accomplished a goal this week as well! I now weigh LESS than the weight listed on my drivers license!! This was the weight I lied about when I was 18 (making it lower than I actually was…I think I was 188 and I told them 186…hahah), which means I weigh LESS than I did at 18 and I was a skinny thing then! I’m still one size bigger than I was then (size 12 then, size 14 now)…pregnancies…you know. But I’m wearing Large tops with no problem. Only bad thing is the ‘girls’ are shrinking quickly at this point. Ugh.

I also hit a total of 91 lbs.with this loss this week! I only need to lose 1 more pound and I will have a NORMAL BMI, no longer overweight!!!! WOOO-FREAKING-OOOT!!!!!

Dumping = Death (24 weeks Post-Op Weigh-In)

Posted by Lisa on 06.28.10

Yesterday it seems, I had a case of ‘dumping’. For those of you who are not familiar with Gastric Bypass or the dumping that can happen, it’s…how do I put this…excruciating! And that’s putting it lightly. Thing is, I don’t even know what brought it on. I didn’t eat anything out of the ordinary, except for a tiny bit of regular milk, which does not agree with me since surgery. But to bring on this kind of pain??? Not so sure.

It started with some mild cramping. It’s ‘that time’ for me, so I assumed that was the cause. The crampy pain got so bad that I couldn’t stand up straight. Then I started feeling REALLY weak. I was outside helping Clint mow the yard when I told him I needed to go in and lay down. By the time I made it to the house, I was barely able to walk from the pain. No matter how I laid (or tried to lay) the pain in my stomach was overwhelming. Worse when I laid on my sides. I kept running to the bathroom, throwing up, and other stuff, literally dripping with sweat. I was soaked. Cold and goosebumps, but sweating profusely. By the time all of this was over, about 3 hours had gone by, a dose of my pain meds from my surgery had been ingested and I fell asleep sitting up with my pillow tucked under my chin. This was surely worse than labor pains. I’m not exaggerating. I can’t even properly describe how horrifying this was. I was tempted to head to the hospital, that’s how bad it was. For me to head to the hospital, something better be broken or gushing blood, and this just about qualified. The rest of the evening, I was nauseous and exhausted but so relieved that the pain was gone!!

This morning I weighed in at 187. Down one pound for the week. And with TOM here, it’s a good loss to have. I’m now just 17 lbs. from goal. Holy skinny feeling!

Weigh-In (23 weeks Post-Op)

Posted by Lisa on 06.21.10

Another great week! I lost 3 lbs.!! That is a total of 88 lbs. lost in just over 5-1/2 months!! IN-freaking-CREDIBLE!

On my ‘Progress’ Page, I had an entire list of goals that I wanted to meet during this journey, post-op. I now only have 4 left, and they are ALL within the next 18 lbs.

I need to lose 2 more pounds to reach the weight that is still listed on my drivers license from when I was 18 years old (which I lied about then, and made it less than I actually weighed. I weigh less now than I did when I was 18, and I was skinny then! How come I don’t feel as skinny now??? Maybe the 2 kids I gave birth to???)

I need to lose 4 more pounds to be at a ‘Normal’ BMI…no longer overweight! Say WHAAAT?!?!?! Too much for me to comprehend.

I need to lose 12 more pounds to lose 100 lbs.!!!

And I need to lose 18 more pounds to reach my goal weight of 170. holy. crap.

It is so hard to wrap my mind around the fact that in 18 more pounds, I have the option of not having to lose any more weight. I still think I may not be happy at that weight and may shoot for another 10, but I’m waiting to see how it goes. I’m so comfortable with myself right now, but there are still areas that need work…um…well…tightening. Lots of tightening.

AND! Get this. I, Miss Lisa, have started training for my first 5K!!!! On October 30, 2010 (yeah, giving myself plenty of time to be ready) there is a local 5K run called ‘Bridge to Bridge 5K’. Our area is well-known for all of the covered bridges that we have. And about 10 minutes from where I live, there is a brand new covered bridge that is the longest in the United States. Pretty cool. Anyways, I don’t know the exact route yet, but it does include running over that longest covered bridge. So myself and my cousin (who runs 3-4 miles daily now as it is and this will be a breeze for her…*gag*…) have decided to do this race (my FIRST race) together! I’m so excited! One thing I will state for the record is that running LOOKS a hell of a lot more fun than actually DOING it!

Weigh-in (22 weeks Post-Op)

Down 3 lbs. this week. Yeah, buddy! I am now at 191. I’m just praying it’s not a dream.

Oh, and I measured my waist today. 36 inches. say WHAT?!?! Oh yeah. 36.
The biggest measurement I have tracked for my waist is 46.75.
My hips?? Today are 44 inches! The biggest I have tracked for my hips is 56!

That is 22 inches in just those two areas ALONE! I think I need to measure all over and compare…what’cha think?

AND…just 7 more pounds and I’m no longer overweight! I couldn’t ask for a more blessed way to start my day!!!
